A message regarding COVID-19 and the impact on Course of Study, and Licensing School

March 25, 2020

Dear Colleagues, Students and Friends,

You are in my thoughts and prayers daily. I hope you’re finding ways to renew and take care of yourselves even as you continue to find new ways to minister to and with others.

I’m sure you’re wondering about the summer session for COS and Licensing School. I’ve already been asked whether we will be holding classes and if we do, what that might look like.

The short and simple answer is: I don’t know yet.

However, I want to bring you up to date on what conversations are happening.

Bishop Grant Hagiya and I discussed several scenarios and possible options. We’re concerned for all our students and especially for those who planned to complete classes this year. I’ve also spoken with Beth Rambikur about Licensing School. We’re in conversation with Redlands University as well. Next week there will be a ZOOM meeting with GBHEM and all the COS Directors.

After that discussion I’ll have another conversation with the Bishop about our Western Jurisdiction classes. As quickly as possible, I will share our decisions with you. If you also want to talk with me directly, please text or email me with your name and number and I’ll call you.

If you have ideas, thoughts or suggestions, I invite you to send them also.

In the meantime, I encourage both students and Faculty to move forward with your preparations. Students, please also send in your registrations.  This will help us determine how many students are planning to attend each course and that will impact the decisions we make. If any class offering is cancelled, any money you have sent will be refunded.

Thank you for being patient. Thank you for your continued work and witness. Thank you for the blessings you bring.

May God give you strength, wisdom, courage, hope and a faith greater than all the fearful words spoken around us.

Grace, peace and blessings,
